Today's is the fourth entry of my new series of Alphabetic recipes. Each day for the next month and more, I will be adding a new recipe linked to a different letter of the alphabet. As I collect recipes from all over the globe, and have lots of Welsh recipes, I am going to use a blend of the Welsh and English alphabets:
A | B | C | D | E | F | Ff | G | H | I | J | K | L | Ll | M | N | O | P | Q | R | Rh | S | T | U | V | W | X | Y | Z
so there will be 30 entries in total. As today is the third day in this series I am providing a recipe starting with the letter 'D'.
The recipe is for a celery and artichoke soup coloured to look like sea water and served with fish-shaped crackers.
Dead Sea Soup Recipe
Ingredients:
1 celery heart (choose one with some leafy stalks)
1 small jar of artichoke hearts
500ml (2 cups) chicken with rice soup
blue and green food colourings
100g (1 cup) fish-shaped crackers
Method:
Remove any leafy stalks from the celery then pull them apart, leaving them long and stringy to form 'seaweed' (sea vegetables). Take the other celery sticks and chop them into small pieces.
Drain the artichoke hearts and cut into 1cm (1/2 in) pieces. Add the soup to a pan and bring to a simmer then add the celery and artichokes and bring to a boil.
Reduce the soup to a gentle simmer then add a little of the green and blue food colourings until you have a murky seawater-like effect.
Ladle the soup into bowls, arrange the shredded celery stalks so they hang over the edge of the bowl then arrange some of the fish crackers on top (serve the remainder on the side).
Serve immediately.

This recipe is brought to you in conjunction with the Celtnet Guide to Recipes Beginning with 'D'.
